Citizens UK and The Living Wage Foundation respond to the Employment Rights Bill

Citizens UK and The Living Wage Foundation respond to the Employment Rights Bill

Today, the Government officially announced their Employment Rights Bill. Citizens UK and The Living Wage Foundation welcome the steps the Government is taking to tackle insecure work. Insecure work can affect all aspects of someone’s life. Often, it means people are unable to plan or budget which can have negative impacts on mental and physical wellbeing, as well as family and friend relationships.

Citizens UK is keen to see this go further and is campaigning for the Government to meet the Living Wage Foundation's 'Living Hours' standards. In response to the Bill, Citizens UK and The Living Wage Foundation have launched a policy brief, outlining recommendations for the Government to tackle insecure work and to ensure sufficient and predictable hours for all workers.

The campaign for a real Living Wage has ensured hundreds of thousands of workers are earning a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. But millions of low paid workers are also struggling to get the hours they need to make ends meet.

That’s why the Living Wage Foundation has developed a new standard of what good looks like for those employers that can offer ‘Living Hours’ alongside a real Living Wage.
