CitizensUK Peace Vigil for Paris

On Sunday 15 November CitizensUK leaders gathered outside London's City Hall for an inter-faith vigil demonstrating solidarity with Paris. Christian, Jewish & Muslim representatives came together as one community to light candles in honour of those who lost their lives and show support with the people of France.

Matthew Bolton, Deputy Director and Lead Organiser for London Citizens, said: “Citizens UK forges relationships amongst diverse communities by working together on social justice. The horrific events of Friday evening shook everyone in the UK. We want to reach out to the people of Paris to show that we stand with them at this dark time for the city. This inter-faith event will also demonstrate the refusal of religious groups to be divided by Friday’s tragic events.”

Senior Rabbi Danny Rich, Chief Exec of Liberal Judaism said: “As we gather at this vigil as Londoners of different faiths, our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Paris. Leaders of all faiths and none need to declare unequivocally ‘Not in our name!’.”

Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari MBE said: “This evening's interfaith vigil sends a heartfelt message of sympathy to Paris and a strong message of unity here in London. As Citizens UK we have brought diverse communities together to work for the common good for the last 20 years and we will not allow these acts to divide us. We are unified and defiant.”
