In August 2024, students spent the summer seeing hate and race riots happen across the nation. Years of division in the media. We know the riots created a lot of fear and anger across the city. We' won't know the long term impact of that yet, but we can start by saying It's Not Banter! To any kind of prejudiced 'joke'.
Grounded in the British values of tolerance, great work has been happening in individual education providers across the city but we know not everyone has the time, head count or budget to create their own resources so we've joined together to pool the resources to lesson plans, staff trainings, educational posters, assemblies and more to make them available to every education provider in the city - across all key stages.
The purpose of the It's Not Banter campaign! is to support and train staff with resources and enable students to learn that someone's race, background, religion, gender or identity is not a punchline of a joke.
Putting together resources about difficult topics, such as discrimination, that were accessible for schools was significant in helping students and stuff understand what discrimination is. It's about how we can teach students and staff to be tolerant about ideas and beliefs that might be different to ours, all across KS1 to KS5.

"At the summit on October 23rd for the first time ever students, parents, CEOs, principals and EDI leads came together to review pooled anti-racism resources, feedback and collaborate with a mind to commit to using them in their schools from January 2025."
From December 2024, the It’s Not Banter toolkit will be live for any school to download and implement via one of Peterborough Citizens founding members, Inspire Education Group, website.
